Ka Chun Hui completed his professional dance training at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts with first-class honours and started his professional career in Hong Kong Ballet (2014) and Danish Dance Theater (2016). In 2018, he moved to Germany and danced in Mainfranken Theater Würzburg under the directorship of Dominique Dumais for two seasons. His extensive repertoire includes works by Nacho Duato, Kevin O’Day, Didy Veldman, Wubkje Kuindersma, Krzysztof Pastor, etc.
During his career as a dancer, he took the initiative to start choreographing in companies. While he was with the Hong Kong Ballet, he was introduced as an emerging choreographer in Hong Kong. Later, he also created a solo choreography, “Portrait Me,” performed in Hong Kong and Germany.
In 2018, he started gaining interest in videography and began investigating the world of screen dance. In 2020, his creations “Underlying Being” and “Who taught you to see” were selected to be shown in the Unfolding Futures - Body Motion Short Film Festival 2020 (Taipei). Furthermore, he was commissioned by the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg (Germany) for a video project in the city. “#Mythos in Würzburg” was created during the COVID-19 lockdown period. It is a project that uses screen dance as a medium to connect with the audience who couldn’t attend performances during that period.
Returning to Hong Kong in 2020, he works as a freelance performer, choreographer /creator, dance video director and photographer. Recent works include: “Counter of Occurrences”, performance art performance commissioned by City Contemporary Dance Company (2022), “Tender in the Night”, dance video commissioned by Hong Kong Ballet (2022), “Beyond the Veil” and “Hollow Landscapes”, dance videos presented by Unlock Dancing Plaza (2021) (“Beyond the Veil”, Finalist of 2022 Jumping Frames Competition), “Me, a Man”, video exhibition commissioned by City Contemporary Dance Company (2021) and “Let the Body Talk” photography exhibition (2020), etc.
In 2022, Hui graduated with a Masters of Cultural Management (Dean's list) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He worked as a Production Manager (Digital) for SWEAT Hong Kong International Dance Festival by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (2022)
From 2023 to 2025, Hui participated in Jacky Cheung's 60+ World Tour Concert as the rehearsal director of dance. He has utilised his skills in choreography and management and led a team of 21 dancers from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, performing over 300 shows in more than 30 cities worldwide.
